Name

Blocare

Active Ingredient/s:
97.4% w/v propylene & alcohol ethoxylates.

Indication:
For the control of bloat under severe challenge.

Withholding Periods:
NIL

Dose Rates:
Drenching
The following is a guide only as bloat conditions can be very unpredictable and vary greatly.

Very severe challenge - 16ml concentrate - prepare stock solution by adding one part of concentrate to two parts of cold water, stir well and store in a closed container.
Dose: 50ml twice daily.

Severe challenge - 10-12.5ml concentrate - Reduce dose by changing stock solution to one part concentrate to three parts water or one part to four parts. Maintain dose at 50ml twice daily.

Moderate challenge - 7-8ml concentrate - Reduce concentrate level to one part to five parts for Friesians or one part to six for Jerseys. Maintain dose of 50ml twice daily.

Light challenge - 5ml concentrate - Reduce concentrate dilution to one part to nine parts.

Maintain dose of 50ml twice daily or use one part to two parts and a 15ml dose. This is the minimum dose at which this drench is effective. Dosing at this level should be continued during periods when bloat risk is minimal.

Once daily dosing with twice the amount of concentrate can be used if desired under moderate challenge conditions.

Water Troughs
Paddock Troughs - Introduce treatment at low dose levels before challenge starts. Initially charge troughs with 30ml of concentrate per 100 litres. Maintain strength by adding concentrate at the rate of 30-100ml per ten cows after each milking depending upon the amount of water being drunk. Increase rate under severe challenge or when water consumption drops.

Shed Troughs - Initially charge troughs at 30ml concentrate per 100 litres. Tie off ballcock whilst cows are in yards. Refill and charge before next milking at the rate of 30-100ml per ten cows.

Treatment
80ml per cow of one part concentrate in two parts of cold water.

Warning
Traces of Blocare may be toxic to calves, especially pre-weaning. Wash mixing buckets and containers thoroughly before re-using.

Withholding Periods:
MEAT: NIL
MILK: 35 days – Milk intended for sale for human consumption must be discarded during treatment and for not less than 35 days following the last treatment.

For the control of body lice on strong wooled type breeds up to three months off shears and Merino type breeds off shears only (machine shorn).
Apply using Coopers’ Lice T-bar attached to a suitable applicator gun. Apply MAGNUM along the midline of the sheep from between the ears to the tail. For optimum results treatment is recommended off-shears (within 12 hours of shearing).

LICE DOSE RATE TABLE
Liveweight (kg)

21 - 30 = 15ml
31 - 55 = 20ml
56 - 75 = 25ml
over 75 = Add 5ml per 10kg

FLYSTRIKE CONTROL
See notes below: Apply using a spray nozzle attached to a suitable well calibrated applicator gun. Always ensure sufficient product is applied to cover the area to be protected.

1. Lambs at docking and for the prevention of crutch strike - apply 17mL of MAGNUM over the crutch area.

2. Sheep less than 35kg - apply MAGNUM around the crutch area (17mL) and in a single strip along the backline from between the ears to the tail (17mL). Total 34mL.

Notes:
(a) Existing blowfly strike at the time of application or blowfly strike after the period of protection must be treated with a conventional blowfly dressing. MAGNUM is not recommended for this purpose.
(b) MAGNUM has been shown to be effective against the Australian green blowfly, Lucilia cuprina, in New Zealand. MAGNUM is expected to provide a minimum of 8 weeks protection from diflubenzuron susceptible blowflies. The maximum protection period against blowfly strike has not been determined.
(c) The length of protection may be affected by factors such as weather, wool type, skin and wool diseases (e.g mycotic dermatitis or fleece rot) and soiling of wool especially from dags.
